Apologies to my classmates...

I learned something this past week that I never knew.  Something I never even suspected was going on while I was in school.  Something it does not surprise me at all that my younger-older brother was involved with, but which I am shocked to the core that my mother did.

I was a teenage stool pigeon.  And I didn't even know it.

My parents were relatively strict--which is to be expected by any Catholic schoolgirl.  I had rules about when I could date, a curfew, and only adult-supervised parties could be attended.  Despite all these precautions, I am sure my parents would not have approved of some of the things that went on at the events I did manage to get permission to attend.  A lot of alcohol can be consumed, and "bases" covered, when the party is in the basement and the supervising adults are upstairs.  Ahem.

Anyway, I learned recently (25 years later!), that my mother was feeding information about these unsupervised parties or school activities to my police officer older brother.

The same parties I was not allowed to attend.  Because if I had been there, I might have recognized my brother the cop hassling my friends outside for their open containers or disorderly conduct.

The same cop who was in turn challenged and hassled on my graduation day, when some of my classmates who had run into him more than once asked, "What are YOU doing here?!"

"Watching my sister graduate," he responded, with a shit-eating grin.  With my Korean face, and his white cop mustache, they'd never connected his last name, with me.

I offer my sincerest apologies to my alumni.  Really, I swear I had NO idea this was going on.
